I am looking for property.
I already own the site on which I intend to build my home.
I have or want a smaller lot in a mountain neighborhood.
I want acreage out some where in the mountains on my own.
I want acreage:
Within a nice mountain community.
With mountain views that go on for miles.
With water views.
On a lake.
On a gentle stream.
On a big roaring river.
On a tall, Cliffside overlooking forever.
Down in a hollow, surrounded by woods.
Next to a little pond.
Not sure, I just like the idea of being in the mountains!

Not sure, but I will know it when I see it. Clapboard horizontal siding.
Rustic elegance: Mountain Lodge style of the sort seen on Rand Soellner Architect website. Poplar bark shingle siding.
Arts & Crafts style. Metal wall panels.
Timeless: cannot tell when it was built. Board & batten siding.
Big timbers. As much stone wall as I can afford.
Big round logs. Slate roof
Large plate glass window areas. Cedar shingle roof.
Smaller windows, but lots of them. Asphaltic fiberglass roof.
More walls than windows. Metal roof.
Primitive Appalachian, rough. Steeply sloping roof.
Drystack stone. Lower sloping roof.
Real log cabin style. Flat roof.
Slick, glossy surfaces. Western Big Log Mansion style.
Rougher, textured surfaces. Carefully placed, smaller rectangular stones.
Large boulders and rocks. Smaller rectangular beams.
Cedar shingle siding. Colonial: lots of precise trim, white columns.
Log siding. Contemporary.
Stucco with paint.

Not sure. Something with a bit of a mountain feel, though. I am open to options. Contemporary.
I want rustic elegance: something that tells me I am in the mountains, but is clean and easy to maintain. Hardwood floors through most of the home.
I want a true timberframe. Carpet floors almost everywhere.
I want a timberframe look for less cost. Carpet floors in secondary bedrooms to save on cost.
I want it to look like an old-time log cabin inside. Ceramic tile floors almost everywhere.
I want it to look like a modern museum inside. Slate or tile in bathrooms.
Open plan (main living areas open to each other-Kitchen-Dining-Great Room). Tall ceilings.
Most rooms partitioned and separate. Wood ceilings.
Foyer open to mountain view from entry. Drywall & paint ceilings.
Foyer separate and formal. Some wood walls.
Smooth, polished finishes. Drywall & paint walls.
Rough heavily textured finishes. Elaborate, large kitchen with large island.
Arts & Crafts style. Galley kitchen, minimum.
Rustic Elegance. Somewhere in the middle for my kitchen.
Timeless: cannot tell when it was built. Island counter in the kitchen.
Big timbers. Granite kitchen counters.
Big round logs. Plastic laminate counters are okay with me.

Background in the Mountains

I have an excellent understanding of designing and building nice homes in mountainous regions.
I have read Rand Soellner Architect's articles on designing and building in the mountains.
I feel that building in the mountains should be no more expensive than building on flat land near a large city.
I believe that it will be more expensive to build in the mountains than in flat land near large cities.
I understand that in the mountains, the ground often slopes quite a bit and that this impacts my foundation cost.
I understand that mountainous regions frequently have faster winds that require homes to be reinforced to safely resist these forces.

How did you hear about us?

Comments or questions you might have for us:

We are working in our Cashiers, North Carolina office nearly every day of the year, from about 9:30AM to about 11:00 PM (sometimes later) (no kidding).  The only exceptions to this are major holidays, but you are still welcome to give us call if you have a new project to discuss, even on weekends and after what the rest of the world calls “normal work hours”.  We really love what we do, so please do not hesitate to call us to share your mountain dreams with us.  We are here to help make your dreams a reality.
